The Saudi Arabian Football Federation is introducing organized competitions for players aged under 5, under 7 and under 9, an extension of its age-group development plans into the youngest categories a federation can formally reach.

At the same time, the girls' under-17 national team is making its second consecutive continental appearance, competing in qualification for the 2027 Asian Cup.

The timing gives the story its shape. The senior men's team is currently playing at the World Cup, opening its campaign with a draw against Uruguay. Saudi Arabia hosts the tournament itself in 2034.

Eight years is roughly the time it takes a talented seven-year-old to become a professional. The players who will carry the 2034 squad are in primary school today. Formal under-7 and under-9 competitions widen the pool from which those players are identified.

The girls' program tells the same story from a different angle. A second consecutive continental qualification campaign extends the program beyond its first appearance.
